Anyone any experience with dog grooming?
We want to start clipping our little Cavapoo rather than taking it her to the groomers. So looking to buy some decent clippers.

We use Mastercut on our little Poochon’s body and I then trim her legs, face and underbody with scissors.

Not cheap, but you get what you pay for and when groomers are £50 a time it soon pays for itself.

I’m a dog groomer as my job so have got Heiniger opals but I would say if you can, get the saphirs as they’re generally more reliable. Still a chunk of cash though.

Don’t get Andis at masterclip blades either, they dull quickly and sharpening is £8.50 a pop. Mastercut or Heiniger blades are the best in my opinion.

Cordless are definitely easier if you’ve got a wriggler. Also be careful with your blades and go for F and not skip tooth as you’re more likely to cut them. 7F is more likely to snag loose skin under the neck, tuck up and around ears if you decide to shave them.

If you’re going to do it short and regular, get a 4F/5F blade which leaves just under 10mm and get some comb attachments to go over a 10 blade.

I’d say watch a lot of videos on grooming as it can be really difficult on the calmest of dogs. It’s very easy to have an accident.

Also make sure your blades don’t get hot otherwise it can burn them. You’ll need to get some Klip well to disinfect the blades, especially the 10 for around the sanitary areas.

For feet and faces you’ll need some scissors if you want to get a good finish and Amazon ones can be ok but dull quickly.

Good luck…
