Had a pretty surreal day yesterday. For background, we used to have seven cats - never set out to have so many, but circumstances just seemed to result in us collecting more!

A few years ago, we adopted Poppy, a cat who had been thrown out onto the street when she became pregnant - she was taken in by the vets, gave birth and was a great mum, but the vets had managed to rehome all her kittens but she still hadn't been adopted. So we decided to give her a home - but she came with a little extra. The vets had someone bring in a small kitten and asked for her to be euthanised as she had constant diarrhea. The vets luckily are excellent, and after pressing them about the food they fed her, which they said were scraps of leftover curry, they spent ages getting them to agree to sign her over. And then, as she was so young, they introduced her to Poppy, who took her on as her own. So we adopted one cat and one kitten.....

Sadly, we lost Poppy, who was hit by a car a couple of years later, but Tilly was our little girl - she had a few wanders (she disappeared for two weeks once ) but just over six years ago she went out and never came home. Posters up, walking around, lost and found pages was all fruitless. So we grieved for our little girl.

Yesterday, got a phone call out of the blue from our vets, expecting it to be about an appointment or something for one of the others, to say that they had had a cat brought in, that upon scanning was called Tilly and was registered to our details....

Suffice to say, it was a bit of a shock. So now, 6 years later, we brought our little girl home again. It will be a long road as she has obviously no memory of the house, the other cats etc so all back to the start, but shes doing ok. She was being looked after by someone but has got a good few scabs and scars, as well as fleas, so it seems she was coming and going for a while but they decided to take her in for the fleas and wounds and then discovered the chip.

Wish us luck!

All the very best of luck mate. We have eight cats. And we just 'acquired' them like you.

Fabulous bit of news. Extra Dreamies and sardines for Tilly!

Thanks for the kind words!

She's doing well, eating like a horse but poor thing is constantly cleaning due to the fleas - vets have treated her but will take a few days to kick in, and she's got little scabs all over her - hopefully she's not going to react to badly to the others, but at least we've had lots of practice with it. Slowly, and lots of food and treats is the order of the day, but a hopeful sign is that she came straight out as we went in to see her earlier, ran downstairs and looked around as if to say 'hang on a minute' and sniffed all around the other cats litter trays without any issue, and then happily let my wife pick her up and bring her back up. And the others don't seem bothered in the slightest about any new (old) smells.
