Keeping cats downstairs
Discussion
When I had 2 cats living here and either went upstairs I would immediately get them down, they soon learned to not bother going up, one of them however would take his tine and go up a few steps then just sit there for a few mins, then a few more steps/sit and repeat until he reached the landing, he used to do this so he could curl up on my work clothes on the landing and go to sleep

What is the best way to keep cats out of specific rooms ( apart from closing all the doors ).
My cat is welcome anywhere in my house - except bedroom 3 because for some reason if she ever gets in, she goes behind the armchair and starts ripping the carpet up. Solution: I just keep the door closed Ffordd Ar Gau said:
Sorry, but that’s made up my rather dull day
Happy to be of service! Get a cat and you then can experience the pleasure whenever you fancy it I have no idea what she finds so attractive about that particular patch of carpet, but if I leave the door open by mistake (or even if I'm in there finding a book - I use the room as a library - she's in there and it's 'rip-rip-rip' in no time flat. Followed by me bellowing down the back of the armchair, which has no effect so then I have to find something long enough to poke down the gap. Grr.

I’ve learnt to live with not having nice things in the house or peace and quiet with various cats and dogs inside over the years. A load of collie puppies chewed the table and chair legs and the less said about the JRT the better
IME, if they can't get under the door (great video!) they will try to tunnel under, and ruin the carpet in the process. Alternatively, if hard floor with no carpet, they scratch at the door doing damage and making noise.
Currently, in order to stop the domestic tyrant from jumping on our faces at 2am, we have a piece of old yoga mat on the landing outside the bedroom door, and a plywood panel propped up outside the door, both liberally covered with double sided sticky tape to discourage attack.
Makes for fun if you have to get up in the dark, but at least we get a full night's sleep!

Reminds me of that advert where the cat would burst through the wall when hearing the food being opened
