Stones/crystals in cat and a very stressful week…

Well this week has been majorly stressful for both myself and partner....
Our Cat on Tuesday morning woke up howling in pain just as I had settled at my desk and starting work. He tried to get up but every movement was met with more howling and crying out in pain.
Scooped him up to take him through to my OH in the bedroom so and managed to get him comfortable whilst trying to get him not to move at all as he had small amounts of blood coming from his penis Emergency call to the vets and we got booked in, examined and explained it could be crystals/stones. They will try to flush through, if not then they will have to operate on bladder, and scrape stones/crystals out.
Flushing didn't work, so poor thing had to have an operation on the same day, Ultrasound or xray can't remember what showed he had a stone stuck in his urethra as well. Vets showed us the stones they removed from his bladder as l.
Then as vets didn't have 24hr care they advised of a few that could look after him, we found somewhere round the corner from us, from there recommended list.
So a couple of days in there, he was comfortable, nurses loved him, peed normally, ate some food and he was back home with us on Thursday night and I am short £4k as we didn't have insurance (got to laugh or I'd cry lol) To be fair we never really had any problems with him up until this week. He's also got a weeks worth of meds to take as well.
Got a check up appointment this Wednesday which I am hoping everything goes well. Truly a situation I never want to be in again as his crying was heartbreaking
Seems to be okay at the moment drinking water and eating, OH is looking for appropriate food for him and a water fountain has been ordered for him to get him interested in drinking water as he never really seems interested in water and always seems to drink bare minimum. Had the cone of shame off him at the moment while he is sleeping in front of me to try and make him as comfortable as possible.
As I said, never want him to go through that again as the poor thing was in so much pain. Cross fingers he is improving and the check up on Wednesday will give him a clean bill of health.

That sounds horrid.
Our beloved Yume started having blood in his urine and was eventually diagnosed with a massive kidney stone; 10x4mm. His stone was in a stable position so wasn't causing him anywhere near the sort of pain you describe. After a very long and expensive week at the vet that included nasal feeding we were delighted to have him back home.
We decided against surgery to remove the stone and managed his diet going forwards and regular urine tests to spot signs of infection early.
I've talked about our experience in another thread. It you want to find it, feel free but not today.

Well he seems to be eating and drinking absolutely fine, however, he still has an upset stomach and doing liquid poo (fortunately he is going in the litter tray!), still eating and drinking absolutely fine and anti-biotics finished on Wednesday. Saw vet on Thursday, however they were pleased with his progress and were happy with how he was progressing. Have advised to keep an eye on his toiletry habits.
We have an appointment with them on the 30th so hopefully get some tests done if he isn't back to normal, which I would like to think he would be but we will see. Seems to be a little perky in himself today which I am hoping is a good sign, although currently asleep in cardboard box at the moment lol

Apologies for not updating the thread!Everything went absolutely fine, such a relief! He seems to be a more happy chappy now and is very vocal on when he wants his food, which he never used to be!
Water fountain is a big hit with him and it's good to see him using it. He is now on special food so I really am hoping this is the first and last of this ever happening again, as it was a horrible situation.
Still weird seeing him with a shaved belly though
Oddly enough, I had this myself a few weeks ago. It is very painful, like trying to pee out a ball of needles! Lots of blood. The relief is immense though as you can pee normally again after a back log of the stuff.
After the op, make sure the cat can still pee again as the tube can block up with a blood clot and will have to go back for an op to have it removed.

Our boy cat had this and cost us a few quid - and the insurer a few more....
He's now on Royal Canin urinary so wet and dry food and we haven't had any further issues.
I mix tap water into the wet food to up his water intake as well to keep things moving.
We only noticed his issue due to repeated 'cleaning' and a small amount of blood in his pee. We just keep an eye on his litter trays now
