£45 each Spaniel. We have two.
A bit like my dentist, my dog groomer seems far more wealthy than me .

Nothing. £40-50 was pissing us off for a dog the size of a cat.

Bought all the kit, including a proper grooming table and do it ourselves every 6 weeks ish.

My labrador size dog was £50 near Glasgow. She has a small shop and drives a nicer car than our local lNHS dentist.

Mine suffers from the heat in summer and I've wondered about having him clipped. Does the fur come back to it's original state after time? What does a shorn chow look like?

Barry and Daphne; small Yorkie/Jack Russell X's are £65 for both, they each come back with a bow, or themed thing on their collars, they smell amazing and Daphne always has a new soft toy of some sort.

Given they are both there for half a day, they love going and get excited when we pull up, they both get on with the groomers dog and it's also like a "play date" for them both, I think it's a bargain, particularly as we are also in Surrey!

I think they all suffer in warm weather, certainly ours is (even) more lazy in the summer smile Yes it grows back just the same, but we dont have it clipped short as such, just a tidy up every couple of months. The double coat insulates them from the heat and apparently they could get sunburnt if cut too short. We tend to walk early morning on warmer days when its 20-25C mid day.

We dont trim any shorter than below

Funny how we managed to cope for thousands of years without the need for dog groomers and yet now you'll find numerous ones on every high street.
Yep, I can think of 6 within 15 miles and all of them you need to book in 6-8 weeks in advance.

I think its a bit like home car mechanics where enthusiast owners were doing their own much more in the past.

Doggy day care and dog walkers etc seem to be great home based business too.

Over the last 10 years the dog population of the UK has gone from 7 million to over 12 million and the services obviously grown with it.

Nice looking dog. I soaked mine down one year and think he was worse for it. I agree that the fur insulates them. I think heat builds up in the body if you walk them, so in hot weather I kept the walks shorter. Now it's cooler his breathing's much more settled.

We have a Westie and pay £35 for a normal wash, trim and spray with smelly stuff and an extra £25 if she cleans his teeth too. Normally go every 5-6 weeks.

Gloria has a wire coat so she’s hand stripped . Depending on how much the groomer can do , it’s tough on her hands, I’m £60-£70 every 5 weeks. Photo of Gloria before her groom tomorrow, looking like road kill

I don't. I do it myself.

Most dog groomers wouldn't touch my dogs due to them being working dogs and the one groomer in the area that would do it, was charging us £70 per dog every 6-8 weeks. I quickly got fed up of that, went out and purchased all of the necessary equipment, myself and my partner took a course in grooming and we started doing it ourselves.

Word got around that were not scared of dogs with attitudes/bitey bitey dogs and we ended up doing the occasional groom for others who struggle to get groomers to touch their dogs.

£40-£50 per dog seems about the average in the area at the moment, extra if you want the nails done too.

Doggo gets her nails clipped every few weeks as necessary (by me) and a quick brush every now and then takes care of any dried on dirt; if she's rolled in fox poo she'll get a hose down. I couldn't entertain the idea of paying someone to wash my dog, it's one of the reasons we got a shorthaired breed (pointer).

Her coat never looks the worse for not having a regular wash, in fact it always seems to look lovely and shiny.
