Didn't know the most appropriate forum, sorry for any offence.

It's bad enough that in normal times dog walkers have no qualms about depositing bags of dog poo into litter bins (not dog waste bins). And when the bin is full, leave it at the side or on top, eeugh!

We are currently experiencing a binmen strike. Many litter bins are now sealed with a notice on explaining that they will not be emptied. However, some idiots are still leaving their dog excrement bags on top of the bins. They weren't even for dog waste in the first place. Do they think that the council will be collecting these bags whilst saying that the bins won't be emptied mad What will happen when it rains, the biodegradable bags will melt away leaving the poo all over the bin. Stupid, stupid, stupid </rant>

Some dog owners are the most self entitled people in the land. It's worse people who pick it up and then hand it on a tree branch, we get some in the bushes to the front of our house, I'd like to catch them at lob it back at the c@nts.

I wad walking through the park this morning and the council were emptying the bins. There is a spot that used to have a bin but for some reason was removed. More baffling is there will be 10s of bags of dog st piled up in the exact spot the bin use to be. At a guess it's been gone for a couple of years at least.

I have a dog. I pick its st up, bag it and carry it until I come across a bin or I get home.

Some councils permit (and actively encourage) you to put dog poo bags in normal bins if there are no dog bins nearby. No excuse for piling it on top of a full bin of any kind though. That is just disgusting behaviour.

I've seen this topic come up on a couple of threads now...

Just to clarify, is the complaint that dog walkers are depositing poo bags into other peoples general waste bins outside their homes?

Its absolutely rank. Even without a bin man strike, the bus stop bins in my local area are constantly piled high with dog st.

I don't even know if the council permit this, expect they do. Either way they need to empty them twice as often.

Honestly can't believe dog owners think this is OK. Imagine they don't care as long as its not going in their own bin at home (caught the cheeky bds using my wheely bin a few months ago).

Using bus stop bins is not nice.

No. General use litter bins that have been sealed due to a strike.

Agree on sealed bins but I know that in North Somerset they're not replacing dog bins (or installing new ones in new areas) and the council encourage dog walkers to use any type of bin.

Is it just dog poo being piled on these closed bins, or is there any other litter at all, and if so is that ok then?

Where I live dog walkers are encouraged to use any bins as dog bins have been disappearing. Our local council has also started to remove general litter bins. places like benches and bus stops have had the bins removed leading to littering and piles of poo bags.

I can't stand any littering, especially leaving bags of st by gates and where bins used to be, utter scumbags that deserve having their dogs removed if caught.

The world smells a lot more like dog poo and piss. Someone near me is using sealable snack bags to leave their little bundle of joy's gift to all.

Only a brave man would walk around confident that they'd avoid stepping in dog poo in this day and age.

I’ve never understood why people go to the trouble of bagging up their dog’s crap and then hanging the bag in a tree - one tree by us must have about 6 or 7 bags hanging up.

Just laziness I guess

We`re in NS too and our local dog bins are funded by the parish council, not NSC. I will use litter bins for poo bags if I have too, but as above, not by bus stops or outside shops.

Nor do I. If folk are going to do that better to just leave it and let it degrade.

Level of dog st on pavements is also getting worse. Taking the kids to school you've got to keep your eyes out and dodge it.

I'd like to see a national campaign and a drive to make it socially unacceptable but I guess that's just society these days. What gets me is there's a high chance the offenders will walk that route every day too.

I can't imagine/remember how the streets used to be in the '70s/80s and previous, when people didn't pick up their dog's turds. Horrible. I do remember stepping it in fairly frequently, treading it thence into Mum's Viva, and a subsequent bking.

My three dogs alone would leave our immediate area thoroughly carpeted with dog eggs within a week. Fortunately I also live in NS so plenty of rubbish/dog-poo bin disposal options, and it's rarely seen around here. Ref the bags in trees though – baffling and stupid. I think it's people from the city (Bristol in my case) who know that it's good practice to bag poo, but are a bit baffled about what to do next when there's no handy bin in the middle of the countryside. TBH, where I see them deposited the most, I'd far rather they didn't bother because the slugs etc will have it cleared up presently.

As a dog owner - I do despair at fellow dog owners who leave their dogs mess for others.

To spend the time bagging it up and leaving it is worse than just not bagging it - 80% of the bags used are bio-degradable and NOT compostable that means they contain some plastics and take a year or more to degrade.

Also, many dogs given a chance have a thing for eating other dog's poop - its a strange habit and quite hard to train out especially when its a smaller dog as they are closer to the 'action'.

Just pick it up already - never heard of eBay and amazon, plenty of bags / gadgets to help you take it home with you (or to a proper bin).

I completely agree. I always pick up after mine and it will be chucked into the first public bin, general or dog specific, that I see on my travels. I’m not carrying it all the way home, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. If said bin was rammed full then yes, fair enough I’d continue on until I find another, or if needs be, home.

People who don’t pick up after their dogs are utter scum. Strangely one of the worst affected areas in my village is right outside the primary school gates, which elevates the scum behaviour to a level even higher!

My local Council (Darlington) admitted they'd been removing dog poo bins as it costs them more to process them as they have to be classed as hazardous waste. They prefer people to put it in with normal waste, in public or private bins, as then they don't get charged more for it.

During the hard winter of 1962-3, the dog poo froze solid and remained so until the thaw finally came. Three months’ worth of crap defrosted gaily on the pavement.
