Has anyone used one of the pet sitting website services?

I have 2 large dogs who I can book in to stay with someone at their home locally, but it is pricey and going to cost my £1000 for 3 weeks care.

Just wondering if keeping the dogs at home, which I am sure they will prefer, and having someone stay would be better.

Yes.

We’ve used TrustedHousesitters. It seems to have worked out well in the past with people there from a week to nearly 4 months.

Decided against it and just put them in with my local guy for £40 a night. The problem is that my son will be in the house some of the time, and one website insisted on an empty house. Thinking about it from the petsitters point of view, they probably want an empty house so they can't be blamed for any issues they didn't cause.

That site is wild. For £150 a year I have unlimited access to people's homes, beds, amenities.

Sometimes even use of their vehicles.

And all I have to do is walk a dog or feed a cat?!

I understand it is a trust based system but surely Home / Car insurance doesn't allow that.
The £150 membership includes a bolt in insurance. I suppose you wouldn't want to use someone with zero references, but it could be made up by taking a fake advert and referring yourself. Some people just don't want to use kennels, and would do anything for their pets.

Frankly it sounds like a thieves' charter.

I know friends who house-sit each other's dogs, but not strangers. No nearby friends you can ask?

Unfortunately a heavy lab and staffy who are elderly, they will have a brilliant holiday with the guy who is having them. They need to be left no more than a few hours, everyone is working.

My daughter does this it ting it around her work at PDSA. She stays at the owners home and fits it around her work at PDSA Theamount she gets I’d say it’s not worth her time but she gets lots of repeat business.

Probably not a lot of help as it sounds like you are sorted now, but I use Trusted House Sitters all the time but i'm a sitter.
I've been all over the country staying in some amazing houses and looking after some brilliant dogs.
In the heatwave we had a few months ago I was in a fabulous house for 2 weeks with an outside pool, what a result!
Works really well for pet owners as well though. I have great references and reviews from the sits I have done, so people feel really comfortable leaving their pets and house with me. One owner left her 911 on the drive with the keys hanging up in the kitchen, but i'm not a dick so it stayed on the drive.
