Putting my cat down...
Discussion
Well this is st!!!
15years old, he is stting everywhere and lost weight over the last 3 months. Had bloods and stools which indicate nothing.
Everything is a litter tray. And hes lost the plot...do I just book him in? Poor fella stinks and is looking rough...
Guess we all suck it up at this stage? I've just not done it before..

When our 17 year old Jack Russell was starting to decline fast we asked the vet about termination. He said “you will know when the times come” he was absolutely correct - we had another four weeks with our dog. And then it was clear to all the family that we had to act immediately.
What I’m saying to you at this difficult time is that you will hopefully know when it’s time. The final decline is sudden

Feel for you OP
From your description it sounds like now is the time.
First time is the hardest
This for every sentence above. From your description it sounds like now is the time.
First time is the hardest
Not sure it gets much easier each time though.
Other than accidents ( cats run over ) I’ve just quickly thought about that call and I think our total is 4 Cats, 4 Dogs and 1 Horse over 37 years.
You know when it’s time.
Sorry to read your post.
Cheers guys,
Was " lucky" with his brother a few years back, quick decline and we found him dead in his bed.
Been finding him in very strange places hiding around the house in the last 48hr and read that they take themselves off to die in private.
I'd honestly prefer to do a quick 12 bore while he's snoring than the cat box/ howling trip to the vet...
1st world problems hey!

Vet says one thing but he is screaming in agony, no clue where he is and stting everywhere, we've done probiotics and dry food but I've had enough...just feel a right £un% if I do this....
I'm trying to unravel this. So you took him to the vet - what did the vet recommend? What is the current state of play?We lost our 18 year old cat last month, he'd been old and raggedy for years but in good health, but in the last week he declined. Stopped eating and looked really frail.
Had to make that awful decision (still find it hard to think/talk about) and found Caroline:
https://www.pallivet.co.uk/
Who came the next day and sent him on his way with dignity and none of that horrible trip to the vets that must be so distessing for them and none of that walking out with an empty cat-box.
Good luck, it's horrible.

Our last cat suddenly starting "hiding" in odd places for a few days around the house, it was all very odd to me but then one morning he was by his cat flap unable to move, panting heavily, quick trip to the vets and he was gone within an hour.
It was absolutely heartbreaking for me if I am honest, working from home for 2+ years he was always around and I didn't realise how much it actually meant to me.
Fingers crossed OP you can get the help he needs or end his suffering quickly

Wish we'd have got an injection and pretended the cat had fallen asleep when he came home from school today but we have a 24hr stay of....

You have my sympathies, it's a horrible time when you know what needs to be done.
I made the decision to put my beloved Zelda to sleep last year, he was 19 and whilst what I would call fit and healthy I'd noticed that he had pretty mush stopped eating anything I put in front of him (and I tried a lot of things), was drinking less and losing a lot of weight. I always swore I'd never let him suffer, he'd had a great long life so I simply called the vets and made an appt for the following morning. It was the single worst day of my life so far, but even looking back now I don't regret the timing or decision at all.
They're your pet, as long as you're clear minded (which isn't easy), you know them best especially when they get older.

She couldn't give the nod to the vet...
Sadly all she's done is prolong the cat's agony; it not fixable and it's not going to get better. Sometimes you have to park emotion, listen to the vet (who's decision-making capability isn't wrecked by emotion), and do the best for the cat. It's already gone on too long. She couldn't give the nod to the vet...
Seriously, take the poor critter back now, do the decent thing for it and take the pain, agony and distress away without more delay.
It is hard to know when the right time is but when you know, you know.
Our beautiful girl Yana was diagnosed with severe kidney disease perhaps 4-5 months ago. She certainly wasn't her usual self but was still OK. She was off her food somewhat for a 7-10 days; worse than her usual diva self.
We watched her closely all morning last Wednesday and by lunchtime we knew the time was now.
Her final trip to the vet was at 17:00, she perked up and was her old usual self; even eating. The vets advice was it was addrenalin. We spent a fantastic final hour with her. Yes there were lots of tears but I walked out smiling safe in the knowledge that it was the right thing to do.
I say the right thing to do....
We lost one of our other cats earlier in the year. Yume had been battling a massive kidney stone for almost a year. He deteriorated so quickly over night. I will never forget the carnage in 'the cat room' that morning and watching him suffer for 3 hours. That is what happened in the end. After 14 years of friendship, I fell short at the last hurdle when he needed me most. I don't think I'll ever forgive myself.
Don't be that man.
