Our cat (14 y/o female) spent most of her life to date quite happily eating Gourmet Perle wet food. Long story short, in recent years she's become quite fussy, she'll be fine with a brand of food for a while and then seem to go off it. We've tried loads of different high-street brands one or two from Pets at Home (she eats their AVA stuff just now, when she doesn't stick her nose up at it) and for a while she and her late brother were doing really well with Katkin, until they had some serious quality issues a while back.

We're quite keen to give her natural, high meat content stuff like Katkin was, some Googling turns up Untamed - anyone here got any insight on their stuff? Anything else worth considering?

Leaving the food aside for a moment, is it just normal for older cats to become fussy with food like this? Or to ask it another way, are we just going to have to switch it up now and then to please her ladyship?

I don’t know when you had the issues with Katkin, but they did change their processes a few months ago which changed the texture of the food. They responded to feedback and now have most of their main flavours back as a ‘pouch’ option which for our ones is much better. So it may be worth trying them again?

I think it was the first couple of months or so of this year. I did have a look on their website before I wrote my OP and didn't see any mention of the pouches at all, only the trays. To be honest though, we found they were going downhill even before the switch to trays so I'm somewhat reticent to revisit them.

Our 18yo male cat usually turns his nose up at whatever’s put down for him during the day but always eats the first pouch of Whiskas I give him in the morning. We have 8 different varieties of cat food on hand and my wife panics madly when he walks away from something new she gives him, I also find that putting down a smallish amount of food and letting him eat it before he gets more works really well. The amount of cat food that gets thrown away in our house drives me mad as the wife is constantly changing it if he doesn’t wolf it down immediately!

Update - we're a couple of weeks in with Her Ladyship on Untamed cat food - so far so good (touch wood)...

Sounds like they tried the save money but their cunning plan went wrong.

Fortunately mine (13) seems very happy with Felix AGAIL. I can get it delivered in a big van from Amazon cheaper than my local supermarket just 800 yards away can sell it for...
