This is a random one. Just checked into a hotel at 11pm and there is a minibus in the car park towing a small box trailer which has at least three barking dogs in it. Clearly parked up for the night.

There is a Kennels logo on the van, and the trailer does have small air vents, but it seems quite cruel to leave dogs locked in a small trailer overnight.

I know you mustn’t leave dogs locked in a car, but does anyone know whether it’s allowed to leave dogs like this for the night?

Van is registered in Czech Republic if that makes any difference.

Many thanks

It’s not something I’d do but it’s probably no worse than how a lot of hunting dogs live. Don’t forget that many dogs used to traditionally sleep in kennels outside. It’s going to be warm tonight so I’m sure they’ll be fine.

Yes, that’s true.

I was really wondering on the legality though as just never seen it before.

Thanks !

Dogs will be fine. They're likely working dogs and the trailer will be a purpose built one. Becoming quite popular with our European friends. Ventilation will be fine and the dogs are more than likely used to it.

Perfectly legal.

Why would it not be legal?
People lock dogs up in small rooms in houses every night.
If its a proper travel crate it will most likely have water bowls and the dogs will have been fed and toileted before bedding down for the night.
Itcwouldnt suprise me if the owners up early walks and feeds the dogs then gets their breakfast before checking out all before you notice in the morning.

This probably happens more than you think.

I used to see a van travelling regularly between Spain and the UK, ferrying pets for people with second homes.

I don't suppose they were doing the journeys nonstop.

I think if it were me I'd be wary regarding thieves.
