Our female dog recently had her first season, it ended around 4 weeks ago. She's 10mths old.

During the season her vulva looked huge and it still looks bigger, her teats (not nipples) also looked bigger and still are, they are saggy and look like fluid may be in there.

We got back from holiday last week after she's been in kennels and my first thought was wow she looks massive (as in fat)

As the week has gone on we have become a bit worried and on friday tried to call the vets but couldn't get through, so planned to call tomorrow.

Anyway, today we noticed some brown/green pus from the vagina.

My wife is now in meltdown worried its pyometra. I thought it might be a phantom pregnancy but i must admit the pus got me a bit worried.

She hasn't got any other symptoms, she is tired but to me seems normal, my wife is currently sayings 'she's lethargic' but seems ok to me, she's just bloody lazy. she's not off her food, no abnormal poo or wee either.

Of course the wife wants to take her to emergency vets (its always a sunday isn't it).

Im not so sure so thought id ask on here while we decide what to do.

I have tried to get a pic and you can see her vagina is still swollen and also the teat area looks swollen, when squeezed nothing comes out and i wouldn't say they feel hard. They do look like something is in there though.

Edit
wife off the phone to them and even the emergency vet isn't trying to desperately get us down there so thats a good sign. They agreed its best to get her to our local vet sooner rather than later.

She's just wolfed her dinner down so thats good too.

I'm no expert, but I'm surprised the emergency vets don't want to see her.

Hope she is okay.

Thank you.

Took her to the vet earlier and by all accounts all is ok. Any change and he said to bring her back but he seems to think its a phantom pregnancy.

That is good news, but any false pregnancy does increase the risk of a pyo......it's not a foregone conclusion, just something to be aware of. Hope all settles down

Thanks for the update . I’m so glad it’s not pyomerta. Gloria had phantom pregnancies after every season so I had her spayed after the 3rd. The phantom pregnancies were quite distressing for her and I was really worried about pyomerta.
