My Labrador is due to go to the kennels for two days tomorrow but I’m having a bit of panic, albeit probably unjustified, about the timings of his kennel cough vaccine.

He had his first KC shot last July and had his booster on 11th July this year. The kennels t&cs state that the KC vaccine is recommended but not mandatory, but does state that if it has been done then it must be 3 weeks prior to the dogs stay.

His will obviously be 12 days, so my question is does this 3 weeks just apply to the first time the dog has the vaccine, as opposed to the annual booster? Or actually is this 3 weeks mandatory regardless of when they have had it before?

If the latter then I’m not sure they will let him in, but also considering the vets refuse to give the vaccine at intervals of less than 12 months then theoretically this could be an annual issue for me.

Do I not disclose to the kennels he has had the booster this year, or could this cause issues to the other residents? Any advice would be much appreciated.

No other replies? I'm not a vet but I think you are fine. The three week requirement is I think for the vaccine to be effective and as you are looking at a booster you are fine. It is not possible to catch a disease from a vaccine and listed complications with the Kennel cough vaccine will show within 30 minutes of giving so no delayed reactions.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, no issues at all when dropping him off.
