Just seen this in my garage. About 6cms toe to toe and a very big haunted house style web.

Can it be a European Funnel Web?

I think I'll quietly close the garage door and he can have it, and my motorcycles, and my paddle board.

Very common in our house/shed/garage but agreed they are not small. Just cajole them into a pint glass, chuck them outside, then repeat at a later date….

Wiki says “ While the female only leaves its nest to feed, males can often be seen wandering around houses during the late summer and early autumn looking for a mate.” which made me chortle a bit…

That's an easy fix - if you really want rid, just pop a plate or some other rigid flat object over the opening & carry it outside somewhere.

I'm reading between the lines that the OP is being a bit of a wuss without declaring or admitting that he is a wuss?

OP - stop being a wuss biggrinwink

I put the pot outside and on its side but he's refusing to leave.

I guess he will when he wants and will just return to the garage.

Maybe he'll take up residence in a neighbour's as they all look alike.

I never knew that the house spider made a web, unless something else made it.....

In the '80s I was a car cleaner at a Datsun main dealer.

One day I put my hands under the rear seats to remove the polythene. As I tugged it a spider the size of a side plate ran out.

I was a bit more cautious after that hehe

Yep, terrified of all spiders, but this exact one is my absolute worst. Just the thought of them is making me lift my feet off the floor.

I like spiders. Not enough to pick one up, but they eat all the bugs which irritate me, so they're welcome in my house. Just as long as they stay out of my bed, okay? Do we have a deal??

Meh. Spiders? I've got Noble False Widows in my garage. We rub along OK mostly, but occasionally my giant tweezers come out so I can grab one by a leg to relocate it. I shifted two yesterday as I felt I was being overrun by them between a roller blind and the window glass. Although I have taken to tapping put my boots and shoes before putting them on just in case...

Yeah these guys are absolute pricks tbqh. All other spiders I encounter regularly will try and hide away. Even false widows are pretty chilled.

Not these guys. They actively run into the open to assert dominance.

Once I was taking a dump and didn't bother to switch the bathroom light on. Heard tapping on the vinyl floor. Thinking it was a mouse or something I leapt up and switched the light on - it was a huge one of these gits slap bang in the middle of the room. Sitting there as if to say "gtfo, it's my bathroom now"

I once found one in my shed getting eaten by one of those spindly 'cellar' spiders. I looked it up and it turns out they hunt and eat the big bds, so I've been cultivating those guys since. They leave a load of webs everywhere but its worth it.

Doesn't help that they're the second fastest spider in the world IIRC.
