What creature dropped these faeces?
Discussion
These faeces have appeared on my garden wall in the last few days. There's a car key with one for scale, another viewed in shot with standard sized bricks (ignore the grey cappings as they're non-standard), and the same one in close-up. The house is in a fairly rural area of south Buckinghamshire with lots of farmland, and red kites are numerous. The wall is four feet high or thereabouts so it won't be a mammal larger than a squirrel. Therefore I have to assume it's a bird. Herons are frequently casing my pond and have been seen on the wall. Kites have only ever landed on it if we've put a dead rodent on there for them to carry off.
I have a pond but it's only ever attracted a moorhen and that a single visit in a decade that I'm aware. No rivers nor any large ponds (other than a few swimming pools). We're on a hillside in the Chilterns overlooking a dry valley. Interesting thought though. Kites' droppings are usually wetter than these, but herons are unknown.

I've actually seen a heron poo in mid flight. It was a large and messy affair with about seems like a litre of semi solid waste spraying everywhere. No neat little package there.
Must've been the fish...Friend of mine has to park his (black) car right next to a 10' tall hawthorn hedge. I don't know what kind of birds live it but their crap welds itself onto the paintwork. I call his car the 'Birdst Express'.
