Dashed across the path and disappeared into undergrowth.

Dark brown reddish colour, bushy tail, a bit bigger than a grey squirrel ?

We get those where I live. Ruthless predators but wonderful to see.

We have them here. Absolute ball ache if they get in your roof!

Definitely smaller than a grey squirrel. Could be a polecat/ferret.

Probably not a pine marten, but they are now starting to be sighted in places where they they haven't been previously recorded

Bingo, well done. Now you can report it too:

'If you spot a polecat, please send us a record that includes details of the location, the date and by whom it has been seen. Photographic evidence will also be very helpful. You can submit it using the WBRC Species Record Submission form or email wbrc@warwickshire.gov.uk. Your records will help us to keep the track of polecats’ distribution.'

A red panda or Basil Brush would have been more fun though smile

Cool, great little creatures, quite a few are hybrids, but either way they are great things to have around as part of the ecosystem.
