I just killed them all. frown

We have one of those Hoselock Cube Aquariums in the garden.
Occasionally it needs a top up due to evaporation and fountain splash.

Took the dogs out into the back field Sunday evening with the hose in the cube and forgot all about it.
Next day 7 dead fish. frown

That's very sad to hear.

My ex neighbour filled his tank with water from the water butt that was fed from the garage roof. An asbestos roof!

Not sure what that would do to fish? Obviously not ideal. Asbestos, when the fibres are inhaled, cause respiratory issues, normally after a period of time. Not sure what the fibres would do in water, or to a fish.

^ They were all bobbing upside down and dead. I couldn't believe his stupidity.

I'm still surprised its the asbestos that did it. I've seen studies of asbestos buildup in the flesh of fish, but not the cause of instant death

I killed mine too, but probably on a bigger scale. I have a large pond, about the size of two tennis courts, during the summer it nearly dried out completely and I kept it topped up and had a pump running 24/7 to keep it oxygenated. Anyway I pumped some water from one part of the pond to the part the fish were left in and then forgot to put the pump back into the part where the fish were. I remembered it the next morning but by then the damage had been done, 70 large carp had died due to oxygen starvation. I had had those fish for 15+ years.

Many years ago my parents moved house and needed their pond fish rehoming. I set up a temporary system in my garden using their established filter (a large cold water expansion tank) and a couple more similar ones, with their old pump circulating the water. Worked fine, they’d been settled in for a few months and all was stable. Very high stocking density, but great filtration and oxygenation, just needed periodic water changes.

Then I went on holiday. While I was away, the pump blew a pipe fitting and almost emptied the system. It was high summer. I came home to rancid fish soup.
