Wonderful creatures - I was privileged anough to spot one where I live (Nortth Cumbria) a year or two ago and think I may have posted on here about it at the time?

They are unmistakable when you see one - we have quite a few Polecats around here but PMs are really quite different and much bigger with an almost cat like face.

Great photos BTW, so lucky to have them come up to the house.

My in-laws live in the Highlands and have them eating bits of bread & jam at the kitchen window. Remarkably happy to come right up.

Nice spot.

Those bifolds are terrible quality ours lasted like 5 years before we replaced them.

Anyway I digress. Pine marten. Cool.

That had to be a Pine Marten on the basis that Weasels are weasily recognised and stoats are stoatally different.

Those bifolds were hand made in a local carpenters and are already 7yrs old so I’m afraid your wrong. They were made to suit opening. A bit like everything in the house as it was a refurbishment of a 250yr old stables.
Ps yes the pie marten is cool.

Is that a sarky comment or are they doing something beneficial for red squirrels, such as killing grey ones? Genuine question, I've no idea and I am a townie.

I think he’s getting at them killing reds, but they kill a lot more greys.

Oh that's a shame.

I suppose there are far more greys about, maybe thinning that field give reds more of a chance, but then if the martens are getting them as well maybe it makes no difference.
