What's this big orange flying insect?
Discussion
Terrible photos, but I saw this big (I'm guessing 4-5cm, certainly bigger than a common wasp) orange flying insect outside and I'm a bit stumped as to what it is. I was thinking Giant Wood Wasp / Horntail but they're more yellow and the colour locations don't really match, then maybe one of the bigger robber flies I found in my insect book (asilus crabroniformis) but again it's not quite there.
Any suggestions? I'll try and get a better photo if it comes back!

Could be a Lymantrichneumon disparis. A parasitic wasp that's very recently turned up in the UK.
Thanks, that looks like it could well be it!Nightmare said:
Yeah shapewise I’m pretty certain it’s a wasp of some sort….but there are thousands of the buggers so an exact ID ain’t coming from those photos!
Here's the links to the full photos, it was at 230mm on a 1.6 crop sensor and the camera was struggling to grab focus on something that small in amongst all the foliage so there was only so much I could do!https://flic.kr/p/2nFeUAa
