We think our spaniel has picked it up after spending 10 days in boarding kennels.

She had the nasal spray vaccination the week before she went in as part of her annual inoculations, but apparently they can still catch it.

Just wondering if there's anything we can give her.

She's hacking quite a lot and coughing up flem every hour or so, but doesn't seem too bad in herself (still running around)

Any wisdom greatly appreciated.

Those nasal vaccinations only work on very specific pathogens/strains causing the symptoms called kennel cough. About 9% effective IIRC.
Several of my Danes have had kennel cough, it's quite common. Much like a bad cold/mild flu in humans.

In most cases it'll clear up in a few days. If you're getting nearer a week then they might need antibiotics to help shift it, which I've had to do several times. Antibiotics for a large Great Dane aren't cheap either, about £140 for the last course.

Thanks guys

She was much worse last night, but still appears ok in herself. Do anti inflammatory help?

As you can imagine, it's a bit of a nuisance in hounds who are kenneled together eg. beagles, harriers and foxhounds.

Goes through them like wildfire. Usually the only consequence is that hunting or exercise is cancelled until they recover.

Horrible weather to be suffering respiratory infection. Should be self limiting but get advice IRL if you're worried.

Our 3 have had it this week, 2 minor symptoms, 1 had it much worse

Poor guy coughing and wretching, kept us up for about 4 nights on the trot

Seems a bit better now

We found honey calmed the tickling cough that seemed to kick his coughing fits off

KC vaccines aren't perfect but I always give them to ours before going to kennels.
The infection is usually self-limiting over 7-10 days, but if it runs on past that then antibiotics are probably useful, up to taht oint, anti-inflammatory drugs such as paracetamol or metacam are definitely useful. You could also use some of the human cough meds but there is no real data to back this up and it's not licensed. If it helped a hacking cough over the night then I would use them.
Most important things are to keep your hounds away from others as they can pass it on over that 2 week period, and also to go get stronger meds if the symptoms run on as they can progress to a severe bronchitis if not treated.
Good thing is, that the infection is nearly always mild although annoying.
