Sounds a bit like she got herself into a pickle, maybe trapped in a shed, or lost, and managed to get back, just in time to greet you. Enjoy your new position as saviours, until she gets bored again.

Re the GPS, does she currently wear a collar?

I've tried GPS tracking collars and I'd not recommend them.

The first one was rubbish, the readings were all over the place, and the app was full of bugs. The second one worked very well, but it becomes more of a worry than a help because you end up checking all the time and wondering where she is now.

Also, there's an annual subscription of £50 (well, the one's a tried did anyway).

With our cat, she's 5, when she was about 3, she'd disappear for hours on end, but before she'd not go off for very long. And that did make me worry a lot. But now, she's back to the way she was before. I reckon her long stints away from the house lasted around 6 months.

Just wait until the weather returns to the normal cold, wet and windy. You won’t be able to move round the house for the bloody cat under your feet all the time.

Our cat went through a going missing period, but that was our fault for moving house and not keeping her in, what is more relevant is that we got a tracker. OH panic bought one and It was expensive, but worked quite well. The downside was indeed the size, in human terms of comparison it was like having a laptop case hung round your neck.
If I was forced to buy one again i'd at least look at bird trackers as they're obviously much smaller.
