Not the cheapest, but I have had good service from Pet Plan.
Have you made any previous claims? The relevant condition (and in some cases just 'similar' conditions) would be excluded from any new policy.
Also worth bearing in mind that some vets will only deal direct with certain insurance providers. Not a problem if you are paying the vet and then claiming from insurance, but if you want the vets to claim directly, its worth checking with your vet.

Have a search ,been done on here before but Pet Plan is brilliant...most have a yearly limit of 8/10k...pet plan doesn't....
Yes, but this raises another important point. OP - make sure you buy lifetime cover (Pet Plan call this 'Covered for Life') as some policies are only for 12 months, after which the condition is excluded. Okay if it's a one-off illness/injury, but no good if it's a chronic condition requiring ongoing medication and/or treatment.Edited by rallye101 on Monday 4th July 17:45

Have boughtbymany, now many pets. Never claimed on their highest coverage plan.
Parents have same plan with their pup, recently claim and said has been really easy.
My renewal for 14 month old price up 20%, looked around and cheaper alternatives. Also got a quote with same insurer as a new customer on same terms, and was more expensive. As such, decided to stay on the same as
on lifetime plan (albeit irrelevant and could move as without a claim to date) but for an extra £6 a month not worth the hassle - plus was pleased to see new customer would of cost more, so hopefully insurer not a piss taker.

I had the best value in the past with insurers providing Allianz policies.
Coop, Sainsbury's and Pet Plan were all underwritten by Allianz, but haven't checked in a while. Never had any problems with claims.
Now I don't bother with insurance, as the prices have gone crazy. You'd need to have a series of bad ongoing issues for it to be cost effective.
My Dane was getting quotes of £1200+ a year once he turned 5. Just wasn't worth it, might as well pay the vet bills myself.

Over the years have had different insurers but “mostly” More Than and for our current Lab ,Direct Line.
No claim thankfully from the latter but various from More Than on various previous dogs.
Never any issue on getting paid and usually quickly.
All pet insurers seem to then exclude cover on affected area if a new claim ( ie leg ) but will allow cover if continuing same issue up to policy limit etc.
Premiums always seem to increase every year or excess does or both and little or no negotiation possible.
No underwriting on specific animal - premiums based on breed / area as whole.

The breeder of our kittens covered us with Agria Pet Insurance, we did renew it for both after the first free 5 weeks, then sods law kicked in and the female had a problem with her new teeth coming through. Anyway our vet accepted the Agria cover with no problem thankfully as it was a weekend and an overnight stay. So straight away paid for itself with no questions.
