If you let her outside when she has not been spayed, surely it's inevitable she'll have kittens at some point? And she'll keep doing so if you don't get her done.

Thanks for the reply and yes it goes without saying. we've been caught out a little as we only got the cats a couple of weeks ago.

Im very puzzled as to why she now only comes in the evening to see if theres food and then just scarpers

Why are you letting a cat outside that's not been 'fixed'?

Not sure what other result you expected really.

Shelters are full of cats needing homes. Get yours spayed before they add to problem.

She's a slag, all cats are. They just go wherever the menu is better.

Because the wife more/less wants her to have kittens.

My question isnt necessarily that, the question is her behavior in the evenings showing up to see if theres food and then legging it,

genuinely, do you think, if she doesnt get ran over in the meantime, she'll eventually stop turning up?

The weather's warm so our outdoor cats barely spend any time inside currently - they appear to eat and disappear again. So that's not in itself something to be concerned about.

The fact you've only had her for 2 weeks might be more of an issue. If she's not settled yet, you may find she prefers living somewhere else.

I am not enamored with the idea of her having kittens as we got her with a male cat (neutered) and those two do not really get on so in addition to the mess we could have him trying to remove the competition im told.

You haven't thought this through have you... I don't see any good result here.

If you don't want kittens get it spayed immediately. It may already be pregnant. If she has kittens don't expect the male cat cat to go 'Awww'. He'll probably attack them.

If you do want kittens, you should have adopted kittens. There are already too many kittens, don't make more!

Im beginning to think you are right.

My idea - wife said 'kittens first then spayed' - but then the kittens getting eaten by the male is something she will not have foreseen even though he attacked her on a daily basis 'when' she was here.

If you do want kittens, you should have adopted kittens. There are already too many kittens, don't make more!

We did adopt. They got ran over - so we figured we have credit in the bank for this immediate escapade.

We got them for the kids and when the last ones got ran over the kids didnt give a st, so im not sure why we even bothered, save for the fact we have 'all the gear'. Plus we live on a main road which in and of itself makes the whole plan crazy.

Anywhoo thanks for the input.

I feel sorry for your cat. No wonder it doesn't rush home.

I sincerely hope that these cats find a decent home somewhere soon. The OP and his charming family should be banned from having pets for life !

You keep cats in for 6-8 weeks after bringing them to the (new) house, otherwise they're quite likely to stray elsewhere. It's pretty much cat ownership 101.

Your cat has basically decided your cat isn't home, but that the food is convenient. The cat has no attachment to you or the house, just the food.

And agree with others. Spayed cats are better cats.

There's nothing natural about humans breeding animals for pets.

You sound like an absolutely terrible pet owner, tbh. Best to give the cat to a shelter and hope they find a home for them with people who give a st.

I appreciate input but it is very easy to make a sweeping assessments and tbh im not, i grew up on a farm and im conscious of the welfare of the animal and the fact they should have some quality of life. the splay issue is my wifes doing, but to be fair she wasnt given the whole history when she picked the cats up - their mother was actually feral. anyway if she has kittens they will go to good homes, where we live is semi countryside and there's no sanctuary per se, you put the notice up on the local fb group and go with it from there, Farmers are doing this all the time and one woman actually was charging 200e per kitten, cheeky cow. I get it if you are in a city, you cannot let a cat out otherwise they will be roadkill. as mentioned above we had the same issue with our previous and we have a big house and a very decent garden but unfortunately a road which can be quite busy at times.

"Morning

One of my cats (female) got hormonal last weekend and went looking for some male action. she hasn't returned per se, she has been seen scooting around the garden since then but seems only interested in what is available food wise. We only have her a couple of weeks so I am not enamored with the idea of her having kittens as we got her with a male cat (neutered) and those two do not really get on so in addition to the mess we could have him trying to remove the competition im told.

Has anyone else experienced anything along the lines of the above? My opinion is that if she wants to act the tramp she can do this somewhere else, although my wife takes a more benign attitude."

You don't come across as someone I would leave an animal with for 5 minutes, the only farm you've ever seen the inside of must have been a funny farm.
Give the poor cats to someone deserving and buy yourself the newest Iphone, widescreen telly or whatever.
