Was doing some gardening this afternoon and came across this battle royal. 4 stag beetles in total, 1 was headless, which I think is that they were fighting over...

Used to see lots of those when I was a kid in the 80's. Cant say I've seen one for 10+ years now, despite living out in the sticks which is rather sad.

Shed loads here( woking, surrey)
I've just had to put up with my 8yr old son and may bug and rose chafer season....if he doesn't catch them the cat chomps them up and leaves them on me during the night....

We found a head a bit further away, so presume it was dead. If it was female maybe it was some kind of weird snuff movie…

Didn't know they were rare, we get dozens of them descending from the trees at dusk when it's hot here in S/E London.

The one on the left is a female and appears to still have its head from where i am sitting
