Invaded by caterpillers

I went to make a cup of tea & was faced by an invasion of tiny caterpillers all over the sink & window frame:



There must be a 100 or so & they are no more than 5mm long. Anyone ay idea what they are & where they came from? I haven't seen any egg capsules like you get on the underside of leaves.
