Can anyone tell me what species of deer this is from? Found yesterday near Weir Wood in East Sussex. 20 inches long and 10 inches at the widest point.

I'd lean towards a fallow deer. Not all of them have flattened moose style antlers.

Cheers. I was put off that by the "palmate" description that they have (and that you mention). You could well be correct but I did wonder that it could be Sika?

I assumed when I got home that I'd go on line and find the obvious answer in about 20 seconds but it's surprisingly not like that . I was pleased to find out though that antlers are generally shed at exactly this time of year so I guess it's done it's job. No idea where the other one is mind. smile

Based on the price of them for dogs, thats a great find.
