How common are these?

I'm getting on a bit and have never heard one. Daughter came home with a short recording from a local wood and it didn't take to long to guess what it may have been and bingo. So it was. Stoney Cloud, Stapleford, near j25 M1.

Red status according to the RSPB
I doubt I'll ever hear one round my local Kent woods.
