French Pet Passport - First Hand Experience?
Discussion
Cross-posting from Holidays & Travel due to lack of response:
Does anyone have first hand experience of whether a French pet passport can be used in place of an AHC to take a dog from the UK to France as well as back the other way? Dog is English, as are my wife and me, and we will be travelling under British passports.
I know our French passport is valid for up to 28 journeys, but we don't want to get to the chunnel to find it'snot accepted and we should have got a(nother) AHC.

We've one dog with a British pet passport (9 years old) and picked up a new puppy last summer from France - he has a french pet passport and came back fine with his french pet passport filled in with rabies, worming etc.
Puppy can come and go as he pleases (assuming vaccines are up to date and vet visit and worming before returning etc ) but out other dog needs the vets new paperwork at about £110 a trip.
We're thinking of getting our older dog a french pet passport from the vets he's been too loads of times as it's my other halves family vet for years so hopefully they'll be cooperative.

Thank you. I'm aware of what should happen, but not sure if it does.
We have a French passxport for our dog, which we got from our local vets last autumn. At the time, he also had an AHC, because we needed that to get him to France in the first place.
What we don't want to do is to assume the Fench passport will be sufficient to get him back to France later this month if it won't be.

The passport is for the dog, the nationality of his staff should't matter.
It really shouldn't be an issue, just make sure that you get the rabies jabs done in EU whenever needed as if it runs out in the UK then you will need AHC.
Thank you. I know what the rules are. I just want to know if anyone has successfully done it.It really shouldn't be an issue, just make sure that you get the rabies jabs done in EU whenever needed as if it runs out in the UK then you will need AHC.
We asked again at the vet about the whole French Passport mess.
It's the rabies vaccine that appears to be messing it all up. Our vet says that they can't put our dogs rabies vaccination details in his french passport as that would then invalidate it as an EU passport as it's been "desicrated" by a UK vet.
Having the rabies vaccination details in a different document like his UK vet booklet may or may not be the answer - can't seem to get a straight answer on that. The vet advised an AHC "to be sure"
The ideal scenario would be to get an EU vet to administer his rabies vaccine when over there and enter that in his French Passport.

Our French vet used the information on the UK AHC and entered it all in his French passport. That's now the only document we need. When his jabs need redoing, we'll do them in France. It's the rabies vaccine that appears to be messing it all up. Remember it is a French pet passport. UK vets should not touch it, so you cannot split vaccinations etc across the French passport and other document
So that really means it has to be completed and updated only by French vets.
It is that simple.
Get away from the NE of France and you'll also find the vets are significantly cheaper than in the UK!
We waited until the rabies renewal and Bob is now un chien Francais.
