There was multiple vomit patches around the house when I came home and found my cat almost lifeless struggling to breath. She also lost control of her bowels. I took her to the vet who found the sting.

Couple hours later I go back to check and she’s sitting in a pool of blood. Don’t fully understand the situation but the vet mentioned inflammation and she’s in shock. I think he also said gastroenteritis due to the inflammation.

When I saw her she was shaking uncontrollably and was told her temperature was low. I’m now waiting to hear in the next couple hours the situation and if I will be taking her home tonight. I asked if she should be given drugs to calm down but the vet said no. Does anybody have experience with this and what can I expect from now to happen? I asked how serious – life threatening it was but don’t think I got a proper answer.

Firstly, fingers crossed for your moggy to make a rapid and full recovery. She doesn’t sound to be in a good way.

No experience of cat stings, but about 12 years ago one of our cats, (Jasper), brought home an adult Adder to play with. After the Adder had been tossed in the air a few times, it got fed up of that style of play and bit Jasper on one of his rear legs. His symptoms weren’t too dissimilar to what your cat is experiencing now.

From what I can recall, a drip for fluids and plenty of antibiotics / anti-inflammatories got him back to his usual daft self within a week.

That's good to hear thanks for your post. Giving her antibiotics will be a real struggle as she refuses to take any medicine from past attempts

Yep, one of our currents cats is a bugger like that too.

Maybe try liquid medication?

If cats are anything like humans, that could be anaphylactic shock.

If so it's nothing to do with microorganisms/antibiotics, it's an excessive immune response. Your vet should know what best to do.

Apparently she's better today and I will be able to take her home later. Good result!

That's good news, she will be relieved to get out of the vet.

Very much so, found her today with her head in the corner of the cage which I guess she stayed like that all night poor thing.

What a scare that was, I really thought she wasn’t going to make it. Well she’s home now, did a few stretches a little bit of cleaning and now gone to sleep. Am now planning to spoil her more than ever hehe

My parents reluctantly inherited a stray kitten and she was absolutely fearless like this, she'd go missing for days and then just turn up with all kinds of strange ailments like this, sleep it off for a day or two and then be gone again.

She looked like she'd gone 12 round with Mike Tyson one day, her face was double the size it was normally, so we presumed bee sting, yours sounds a little more severe as she didn't have any bleeding or anything, but was just really sheepish and slept for a day and was fine once the swelling went down.

I'm sure yours will be ok in a day or two, they're incredibly hardy.
