If anything i fear you would be liable to the damage to the van more so than them to the Dog. I hope pooch mends well!

I hope your dog is ok and recovers well.

Would the van driver be liable if the dog sprinted out in front of his van?

The way you've described the circumstances I can't see how DPD can be liable for any of your costs.

Broken leg is probably gonna come in at more than a few hundred quid, however, given the dog ran out, wasn't (as described) on a lead etc then I strongly suspect the DPD driver has no liability here.

Get well soon to your pooch, if anything like ours the dopy fkers bounce back quite well

I know this is your beloved pet and I hope the dog recovers, but you are fully responsible for the dog running into the road, being unsecure, what if the DPD driver swerved and injured and child because your dog ran into the road. So stop persuing the driver or the police and take responsibility. Like I said I hope your dog recovers.

Surely that just makes it an unfortunate accident. Why would DPD be liable?

Hope dog gets better and that no parcels were harmed in this incident.

I don't think the driver is at fault if the dog ran out in front of him, unless he was speeding or driving without due care and attention. I'm a bit surprised the dog isn't insured too, bit of an oversight really.

Agree. Not sure how he 'technically failed to stop', either, given he seems to have had a conversation with the wife. He only needs to stop long enough for other involved parties (ie the owner or whoever) to ask for details if they want them ..."he just left once my wife told him not to worry and sent him away."

He's got 24 hours to report it regardless.

Hope your daft pooch makes a full recovery.

Sounds like you/your dog was at fault not the dpd driver.

Aren't you still supposed to stop and provide details to the owner if you hit an animal? This seems pretty clear:

You're liable for not controlling your dog, and you completely contradict yourself with regard to him stopping.

You're clutching at straws. You'll have to swallow the vets bills.

Sorry to say, but if your dog has legged it out onto the road, unsupervised then the liability is all yours...... You haven't kept it under control. You could be on the end of DPD claiming for damage to their Van.

If the pooch has broke a leg, then vet's bills will be thousands not hundreds, unless your'e really lucky. Painkillers, Xrays, drugs, emergency care and everything else will be a couple of hundred.

In one scenario (possibly this one) the van driver isn't concentrating where he's going because he's just made a delivery and now he's fixated on his smartphone app and drives without due care and attention, leading to an avoidable accident.

Hope the dog is ok, I would be beside myself if this happened to my dog.

Thankfully from what you have described, he will make a full recovery.

I think on this occasion you should just chalk it up to experience, no damage to the DPD van, so just vet fees to cover.

While alot of people dont think Insurance is a big thing for pets, and can afford to cover vet bills themselves, situations like this is where it comes into play, the insurance would have covered any costs for the other party had it been a more serious incident.

I dont think people on here were trying to be funny with you, but your original post came across that you were blaming the DPD driver and wanted them to cover the costs of your vet bills.

Go for it.

Report your failure to control your dog to the Police and let DPD make a claim against you.

Sounds like a plan.

PS, glad your dog is ok.

But in the end, the driver did 'report' to the dogs owner and was told not to worry so surely the responsibility was discharged at that point.

It's clearly your fault OP.

I'm sorry to sound like a tt, however people like you, failing to take responsibility for your actions, is everything that is wrong with society at the moment. (You're even trying to blame a 5 year old - really!!!)

FFS take responsibility and move on, also get the dog insured please, to be honest it's even more shocking that you own an uninsured dog!

Blimey, I think your scraping the barrel with your defence a little aren't you? I mean, lets put it down to the stress/anxiety/shock your probably currently feeling due to the circumstances, but still, this is pretty black and white if you ask me.

Your dog runs out of the house after a minor opened the front door, across the road and straight into the path of a van which was driving down the road. Yes, he should have stopped, of course, but it's fair to say this is completely your responsibility as a responsible parent / dog owner to prevent such things from happening.

You need to suck it up.
