Hi all
So i lost my 13 year old boxer 2 years ago. Leaving a huge hole in our lives we had discussed about having another dog but have always drawn a blank.

Yesterday an ad came up to re-home a 8m old boxer.

It seems that the owners life has changed an he can no longer look after the 8m old Boxer although he does have an older 9yr old boxer at home.
Funnily enough, I am friends with the boxers Sire owners.. And they have vouched the dog is in very good health

Rightly or wrongly, he seems to be trying to recoup some of the money he spent buying him as a pup. Figures are high around £1,750 at the moment. Too much for us but there is negotiation there as the original price was £2,500 and its now around £1,750

Prices for dogs seems to have travel up so much since i was looking.
The owner seemed honest as can be over the phone. He mentioned there is some training to be done as he is chewing and needs some toilet training.

I do have a few reservations
- I am an honest guy and i am conscious that all i have is his word about the dog.
- I mentioned about seeing the dog but he said he has yet to break the news to his kids so would need to meet in a park or somewhere local.
- I am so far gone on prices for pets, i have no idea what amount should be a good amount to pay.

I am due to call the owner today and i am considering meeting the dog over the weekend..

re meeting in a park, so you cant see the home life of the dog, its living conditions, would ring alarm bells - can he send across registration documents or microchip details so you can see he genuinely owns this dog, couldnt he let you pop round under the impression you are there to quote for some work to do for him, diy, gardening, etc at least you could see the environment for the dog.

good luck either way, we have heard some awful horror stories

I'd be wary too, it smacks of the "good runner a/c just needs a recharge, short mot but new one no problem" adverts.

If you take the dog what's How's he going to break it to kids? Oh by the way I sold your dog, fancy a mchappy meal tonight?

It might be above board but buyer beware.

It's a pity that dogs are now a commodity to be traded like cars.

His first concern should be that the dog goes to a good home, not just how much money he can get for it.

Thanks everyone.

Some really good advice. Still waiting on whether we can see the dog and good advice around viewing living arrangements.

Possible Sunday morning will be a park meet so will keep you posted.

Thanks
