While I was checking the levels on my truck, I noticed a lot of acorn husks and shells (and turds) all over the intake manifold. I think my local tree rats are using my engine compartment as a dining room. I am concerned that their next move will be to start noshing on my hoses and cables.

I wondered if leaving it parked with the hood open might deter them. I live in a very friendly climate, so no exposure to foul weather. Does anyone see a potential problem with that?

Executing them by poison or gunfire is not an option, but I wondered if there are any other deterrents I could employ to discourage them. Any suggestions?

Maybe they like thier nuts roasted…
Could you maybe spray on some kind of deterrent, a smell they wouldn’t like? Or maybe an ultrasonic emitter - they work well deterring the moles and mice I have.

Someone has suggested I give these a try...

Worth a go, because the problem is in a vehicle that I use, so anything loose is just going to get dislodged - or worse, sucked into the intake.
