We’ve got an outdoor cat that can only be let out by opening the patio doors in the living room. So naturally he stands there when he wants to go out.

Now every time he goes out he gives a little squeak, sometimes a bit louder/ longer but always a squeak.

Is this thanks? See you later?

Of course it’s not really a serious question and nobody will actually know but I’d love to know what it means.

Probably just a thank you for letting him out.

Best invest in a cat flap.

I'd say its because it's happy. Might do it at feeding time as well!

Louis does a chuntery noise when we let him back in.

I'd like to think it's 'Thank you'.

But it's probably more on the lines of 'You took your bloody time. I've been waiting for at least 5 seconds'.

As it’s a cat he’s likely saying “took your time” or something equally sarky

“Just as well you’ve let me out as I’d only have shat on the rug.”

Or words to that effect.

We have two cats. One makes the odd chirrup or mew if she wants something of her servants.

The other is a complete chatterbox

Cats learn that their owners respond to certain vocalisations. This just means that your cat knows you respond to them and do the thing he wants you to do when he makes that noise. He has trained you well hehe

I have 2 cats, one can but doesn't talk. The other vocalizes all day with every interaction.

The talker has quite the vocabulary, many different calls, chirps and noises. Different tones mean different things, eg I can tell the difference between him having lost his pen that he was playing with, wanting food and needing a big crap just from his noises.

The other eejit just jumps up in front of the TV or whatever has your attention and starts to paw at the screen, or walk over the keyboard of the laptop to tell you he wants something. Which usually turns out to be x3 refusals at the front door before banging on the back patio door for egress.

Mine has learned to go to the patio door and go 'meep' at 30-second intervals. You think she wants to go out, but no, it's just an attention-getting trick. And it never fails godammit...

Lucy our tabby picks up a toy mouse then miaows extremely loudly with a bizzare clockwork-like regularity. When we are on work calls people have asked if we have a car alarm going off! hehe

She doesn't stop until we go find her. She then drops the mouse and gives us a look as if to say, oh you are here. Ok. Then wanders off. hehe

Pickle (my calico female) cries like a baby from about 1500 until she's fed.

It's horrendous. Like nails down a blackboard. Still love her to bits though.

The other funny thing is, if my wife goes for a pee and leaves the door open she goes rushing in to stand by her. Daft mog.
