I've heard of people who had a phonecall from a vet to give them the bad news.
The last time one of mine went missing we spent the entire weekend searching every street, alley and road on the estate, expecting to find a dead cat.
We were lucky in that he simply turned up after presumably being trapped in a shed or garage (he went out on a Friday evening, torrential rain followed so he presumably took shelter as someone returned from work).
If he had been run over I'd rather know - the not knowing was very painful, as you could usually set your watch by his 2-hour patrol.

Does no one produce a gps collar for the little rascals? The last time one of mine went missing we spent the entire weekend searching every street, alley and road on the estate, expecting to find a dead cat.

Same sort of thing as the covert locators on cars that you can call up on your phone?
Itd take a load of guesswork out of trying to find the furry b'stards when they go walkabout.

sadly a lot of cat will do their utmost to lose their collars (or if they're too tight can be strangled by them)Same sort of thing as the covert locators on cars that you can call up on your phone?
