What is this garden bird ?

New visitor to our garden, never seen one before and no idea what it might be

Poor iphone pic i'm afraid but its about the size of Thrush which is what I first thought it was but it has striking yellow bands around its eyes and on its breast

I'd probably go with Redwing, based on the 40-50 pixels we have to go on. biggrin

Think you have it , many thanks

Same family as a Thrush so makes sense although I didn't spot any red so perhaps its a juvenile

Its a redwing. The red patch is under the wing by the body so you'll see it when they fly. they've just started arriving for their summer holidays.

They fly in the dark and make a zee call as they fly overhead. It took me years to discover what made that call on a clear frosty winter's night.
