We have two generic moggies. One male, one female - supposed brother & sister Both getting on a little and 12 years old.

General health is good, they have an annual check up & are up to date with vaccinations etc. They have both been wormed in the last month.

The male is like a bottomless pit - literally can not fill him. Every time I get up from my desk or the sofa or anywhere else he's round my feet wanting to be fed.

They aren't going outside as much as they used too but do still go out at least once a day.

Dry biscuits are down for them to help themselves too all the time but he doesn't seem too bothered by them.

Wet food however, pouch in a morning when i get up, he expects another at lunch, will want another at tea time and then another at bedtime - and likely another at some point through the day.

He's not a massive cat - about 4 / 4.5kg and the vet says good weight.

He does have the occasional sloppy poo.

Anything to worry about? or is he just a hungry git?

Editted to get the weight correct!

My male cat will eat anything & everything, he’s about 5-6kg.

My little girl cat is such a picky eater it’s untrue! She’s about 3.5kg.

They get about 100g wet food each twice a day & biscuits once a day, little girl may get a 3rd serving of wet food.

Seems to be ... my cat is 4.2kg and is not big - and more of a fluffball than a fatty

Our are 3.5kg (always a tiny thing) and 4kg and they get about 190g per day each. They’d eat more but they have a good frame although the bigger one is putting on a bit of a belly lately. They are 10 years old.

There is no hard and fast rule. If your boy is active and healthy and has a good shape then he’s getting the right number of calories. Size is a factor, metabolism too but the biggest factors are the quality of the food and the ambient temperature. They need as little as half of the best quality food compared the the worst and they use a big proportion of their calorific intake to maintain body temperature; that’s why appetite is often seasonal.

I’d not worry about his appetite at all if I were you. Much better then having the opposite problem with fussy cats.

My last cat would have eaten the OP's for a snack #powerfully-built-mog*

He was a fairly bottomless pit too, despite seemly living on the sofa fast asleep. If the vet doesn't have any concerns then let him get on with it - by the sound of it he needs building up.

  • Edited to add: revised moggy weight reduces this likelyhood hehe

Could be Hyperthyroidism..our old cat was similar in that he was constantly hungry, even eating 800g of wet on a daily basis- went onto medication for that and the constant hunger stopped.

This is interesting, wonder if I’m not feeding my two enough?
Brother and sister, 13.5 years old. They have half an 85g pouch twice a day and a bowl of biscuits is available all day.

Does this sound like too little?

And should we include the outside buffet he calls his garden? Which is actually 7 or 8 gardens. Our neighbour sees one of our cats just sitting and watching on a wall near his compost heap, just waiting for the next mouse...

He also can perform magic. Neightbour turned his back for a couple of seconds, and said cat turned his chicken salad into plain salad smile

My two have a minimum of 4 85g pouches of wet food each per day. They usually beg for more. Then they devour every small rodent they can find, the occasional rabbit, and one of them even caught a rat a few days ago (that wasn't eaten, just eviscerated and left in the courtyard).

So, in simple terms: they are cats. Cats are always hungry. Always. "Feed Me Now".

Hyperthyroidism was the first thing that came to my mind too.

it's also worth checking the meat content of the cat food you're using, some brands are shockingly low (8% or less).

We've switched to quality brands (40% +) and our 16 year old is healthier and eating sensibly (3 pouches a day). We took her off Felix 'As good as it looks' because it was making her ill!!

Mine eats about 5 of those felix as good as it looks a day. He's about 4kg but is out a lot so must use the energy. tried posh food with a higher meet content but he likes his felix.
I think the guide on the box is 4.

Interesting - our 3 are all over 6kg's, and eat 1 85g pouch each and graze on biscuits during the day - can get a bit hangry around dinner time, but other than than seem pretty content.

Is that one pouch split between the two twice a day like mine, or just one each at dinner and biscuits for the rest of the day?

My 13 year old 4.9kg athletic female who spends many hours hunting and climbing every day, regularly consumes 2 x 85 gram pouches alongside grazing on dry food. I feed her on demand and occasionally she only wants one pouch. Both wet and dry food are usually IAMS which she prefers.
