No not for COVID but for my cat.

He was due his booster but the vet has said there’s a Europe wide shortage of the treatment.

It’s okay for a couple of months without the booster but if it’s longer than a month or so they’ll have to give him a new type.

Has anybody else encountered this?

I've been trying to get mine registered at Pets4Vets since July. They aren't taking new registrations on, at least for cats. Apparently a vet left during lockdown so... They did take my details for a "waiting list" but I'm starting to suspect smokescreen.

My cats were due at the beginning of October. The earliest I could get them in? 30th November!

But that's apparently okay.

One of them will be going to a cattery in a couple of weeks time; I hope they're okay about it too!

There is a bit of a shortage, but nothing to worry about. Practices are being allocated the vaccines that they need, it just means that we are spreading out vaccines a little bit. It is generally considered that you have 2-3 months leeway without affecting cover, so delaying vaccines by a month or two is no issue.

I would check with the cattery in advance, it will be their decision. I am sure your vet will try their best to accommodate if your cattery will not take the cat otherwise.

There is a nationwide shortage of vets for a number of reasons, many practices are short staffed and not taking on new clients to ensure that they can look after their existing clientele properly.

IR35 is probably the biggest reason for the immediate shortage, particularly where the corporates are concerned. Vets have been drifting out of the profession for a number of years as the profession is poorly paid and stressful with long hours. Brexit hasn't helped but hasn't really made much difference either.

Why not read the WSAVA guidelines?

WSAVA guidelines;
Dogs - 2 or more x DHP as pup + 26-52 wk booster + DHP every 3 years, Lepto is considered a core vaccine in the UK and requires annual re-vaccination.

Cats the same but Panleukopaenia every 3 yrs and FCV / FHV-1 annually

This is exactly what vets do...

We see Lepto fairly regularly and I have had colleagues who have acquired it in a hospital setting, not nice.

Our two are due their boosters now, we called last week to get them booked in but they had no vaccines available, said to try again in a month. The older one (15) had a funny turn on Monday night, went all unsteady on his feet so we took him to get checked out yesterday, as it happened they'd had a delivery of vaccines so he got his while he was in and his younger sister is going for hers and a check-up tomorrow.

Funny turn we think is arthritis in his rear legs/hips, got a couple of weeks' worth of painkillers for him as well, in addition to the medicine he already gets for his kidneys...
