My ‘little darling’ has a penchant for destroying bed mats. Brand new ones! He’s 5 months old, so we’ve had him 3 months, and we’re on the 6th bed mat in that time.

The below was new TODAY. He was in his crate long enough for me to shut the room door, turn the oven on and get something out of the freezer - maybe 90 seconds - so he’s now on the bare metal base of his crate.

Any ideas for dhead proof bed mats?!

Don’t think they exist. My lab is 6 and destroys beds. And wood. And bits of slate. Anything

Your pain.

I feel it.

Dogs locked in the crate in the kitchen.
I come down in the morning and find her :

a month later another bed - being left for 10 mins on an evening :

Agreed.
Had one for 12 years and a total of 5 dogs (not all at once) and not one of them has managed to kill it.. including a lab and a collie that have destroyed most things.

This.

Cheap single duvets and covers (I buy second hand) are more budget friendly.

Holy crap - £205 for the large!! Although, it’ll pay for itself in a few weeks at this rate!

Just seen, he’s 5 months and is almost too big for the big one already hehe

Fix the problem, don't try to work around it.
You need to catch the dog in the act and tell it off.

we’re trying to work on it, we really are! He doesn’t really chew anything, other than his bed, that’s the frustration at the moment. He’ll settle in his crate fine, lay down and give the sigh and then BANG, the beds a goner the second the door’s shut!

Have you tried giving him anything to keep him occupied in his crate (like a stuffed Kong)? Sorry if I'm teaching grandma, etc....

We have, usually use a small Kong with Primula in it or frozen fruit and a big Kong for during the day when I’m on calls etc. Saying that, we don’t do it at night very often as we find he gets the zoomies after he’s has it, so you might be on to something there.

He’s got an antler and a few chew toys in there, but they get ignored!

Does he need a mat? For the time being maybe a pallet would be more suitable.

I bought Tuffies beds and my dogs weren’t keen on them - expensive mistake.

My younger dogs love these beds

Really like it because when it gets remotely smelly you can just chuck it in the washing machine.

We had exactly the same issues with our dog. Whatever type of dog bed we would buy him, he would destroy it, either in minutes (2 was his record) or gradually, over a period of weeks. We were getting to the stage of thinking that, after he destroyed the current bed, we would not replace it. However, a couple of months ago, we went to the local Makers Market and a lady there was selling very high quality dog beds and other bits & pieces. Ultimately, we bought a bed plus cover and a crate bed for him. They are still very much intact. In fact he hasn’t been able to even slightly damage any of them.
If you Google, “Stitches by Frieda,” you should find her. She is based in Matlock, Derbyshire.
Hope that helps.
