We get plenty of deer around here (Dorset/Devon border, not far from Lyme Regis), mostly Roe, I think, but this one walked across the kitchen garden the other day and I wondered if it was a Red deer. I'm told there are some around. Colouring different, darker and slightly mottled. The Roe I see are a lighter brown. Anyone?

Looks like it’s wet to me which would make it look darker…..red deer are a good chunk bigger than roe and frankly that’s the only real difference as far as Ive ever seen. That could easily be either as I can’t tell how big it is! If you see roe often you’ll know if that’s much bigger or not would be my only help, sorry.

I would say young Roe Buck.

No tail; white chin; plus it's rutting season and so covered in dirt and pee.

The only thing that puts doubt into the guess is I would have expected to see a white rump but I don't with those pictures.
