Roadkill badger - where did it go?!
Discussion
Potentially the weirdest question I’ve ever posted…
There was a freshly killed badger in the long grass on the verge down one of the lanes near us at the weekend. Lots of blood on the road but I think it had landed there rather than being able to crawl away.
It was there for a few days and beginning to smell a bit ripe. Had been moved from lying on its side to being on its back a couple of days ago, and looked like something had had a little taste…. Went past yesterday morning and it had gone!
It was at least a quarter of a mile from the nearest house, and pretty well hidden in the grass, so I don’t think a person had moved it.
Intrigued as to what wild animal would have been able to drag it away though - a fully grown badger looks a pretty hefty lump. Would a fox take it?

Randomly,I looked into this a while back!
You can report dead badgers to the local council and they will collect them-I think that they may have an interest in differentiating those that are killed in collisions, versus baiting and tb.
Certain badger societies also collect them,to see if they were pregnant.

Pretty much!I live in a tiny village where people are a bit strange. One of the villagers admitted to eating (roadkill) badger and said it was like beef.
This is something that must be tried. The only challenge I can foresee being getting a fresh one. I'd imagine that like deer, the guts ferment pretty quickly.
