As I have posted elsewhere the goat family got a Maine coon cat just over 2 months ago.
Well the poor thing has been ill since we got it. It had diarrhoea since the day he arrived and still has it now.
He has had antibiotics, parasite treatments and gastrointestinal food for weeks.
We have had stool samples tested and it showed feline Covid which I know can show the symptoms he has but all the online sources suggest a cat normally recovers from this pretty quickly.
He is 6 months now and is still growing and putting on weight and is about 4kg which appears to be about right (maybe a little small but not a lot) for a Maine coon.
Some days he seems fine and full of energy and mischief, other days like today He is obviously feeling under the weather and doesnt do much at all. He is very often covered in his own excrement, almost always stinks. We have to bathe him quite a lot which maybe isn't as bad as you think doesn't make him happy!

I was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what we might be missing? We have resisted changing his diet as that normally causes temporary tummy upsets in cats. We have just changed his litter just in case it's not helping...

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks
Drg

I have no advice, but that was a hard read.

Hope this is sorted soon as you obviously love that kitten

what are you feeding him? I know my cat doesn't tolerate the grain/cereals that are in a lot of the wet/dry food available.

It's special vets supplied gastrointestinal food. Dry and wet.

Certainly not a cat expert, but just general thoughts:

Is your vet suggesting any further tests?
If not, I think I would be wanting a second opinion or specialist referral.

Hope you can get it sorted.

Hmm old farm vet not brilliant on cats apart from wife bred cats, feline coronavirus is not really Covid, but causes a nastier set of issues, Feline Infectious Peritonitis in fact. So difficult to diagnose in an individual but certainly a problem for cat breeders.
Anyway, if FIP has been tested for and ruled out, then, I would advise a diet of cooked/boiled fish and chicken over a few weeks to see if altering the protein source changes to outflow.
If that doesn't work, then I would advise seeking somewhat heavier assessment from somewhere like a vet school or independent gastroenterologist (aka poo specialist)
If you have any questions then please post or email
