Had to put our working cocker spaniel to sleep this morning.

He had been going downhill for a while but I woke up at about 2.30 and he was having trouble getting up. Think he may have had a stroke as his head was on one side.

Vet was great and administered the final dose in the boot of the car.

Harvey has been with me since 11 weeks old and came to work almost every day. we couldn’t have had a better dog and I like to think he couldn’t have wished for a better family.

He was 13 years and 10 months.

RIP lovely boy.

Aw, sorry to hear that. My sympathies. We lost our working cocker Alfie last September in similar circumstances. He was 14 and had been deteriorating for a few months. We got up one morning and he appeared to have had a stroke or similar - couldn't get up, had messed himself and when helped up he would stagger and fall again and seemed disorientated. A very sad day. This was him in happier times.

Thank you all for your kind words.

My wife is currently out with our other dog and the house feels horribly quiet.

He lived a full life and we have many happy memories

Oh no, not Harvey, I have loved seeing your photos of him!

I am so sorry.

But what a wonderful life he had, if only all dogs could have the same.

Hugs to you and your wife.

Thanks for your commiserations.

That photo made me laugh out loud.

It was very strange to not hear Harvey snoring last night.

We have another pair of Guide Dog puppies coming for a few days in about a fortnight, so will have lots of positive energy in the house.

Again, thanks

Thanks lads.

Our other dog, Sorcha, is off to the vet today to have her stitches removed.

Cancerous lumps but vet hopes all taken away with the surgery.

Up until recently we always thought of her as a young dog, but she must be about 11 now.

She was an Irish rescue, brought to the UK with hers sister, and now living back in Ireland.

This is the first time she has been an only dog in the house. Seems to be adapting well.
