I lived in Milton Keynes before moving upto Nottinghamshire nearly 3 years ago..
The one thing my new address has in common with the old one is pigeons!
Who has them around at their addresses, or are they just everywhere......!?

I believe they are restricted to a sausage shaped area encompassing Bedfordshire and Nottinghamshire.

Unlucky for you!

We have 2 wood pigeons - which we've named George & Mildred. The seem to alternate between sitting on the fence to sitting on the fence and shagging. Seems quite a nice life

I feed a few as well. Some feed from hand and one has racing rings. He's been around for a couple of years. I've noticed that on the days they don't visit the oap's have been feeding them lol!

Next time you hear one just imagine it is saying 'how do you do'. You will never now get that out of your head.

Enjoy.

I live in Gloucestershire and those damn flying rats are a real problem. Our fences are streaked with their mess as are our cars. At least every couple of weeks one flies into one of our windows.
I recently bought a .22 air rifle with a scope. As soon as my marksmanship is at a level where a clean kill is most likely their days will be numbered.

And now the big game hunters are here with their tiny pistols, it's tragic. Go and wash your car, it doesn't belong in the first place.

Why worry so much about pigeons - I live in a seaside village and we have sea gulls to worry about ....?

Shooting pigeons with an air rifle is not recommended - it will likely just hurt them.

They breed incredibly fast anyway. A local farmer was getting his crops murdered by them 2 years go, and they shot over 2000 of them in 100 acres about half a mile away. 2 years later, the place is crawling with them again. Woodies are nice enough birds though, unless you’re a farmer....

We've had feral / wild ones in every place I've lived in, and my parents have a flock of 20 / 30 visiting their garden every day. Some have been coming for years and will take food from their hands etc.

I currently have two pet ones; one retired racing pigeon and another giant runt pigeon. They're far more intelligent than people realise, and make great pets. They can of course be pests in large numbers, and I don't have any problem with people shooting them provided they actually know what they're doing and have permission to shoot, rather than chavs firing air guns into their neighbours gardens. I feel the same about the large number of stray dogs and cats where I live, but for some reason people think it's only OK to shoot animals that aren't "cute".

I wouldn't recommend letting a 12 bore off in a housing estate, that would be silly.
If you can't get a pigeon in the head with a decent air rifle and scope then you're a bit crap really. There is a never ending supply of them so making good use of them is just fine.
It's only like shooting rats, but not eating them.

That's a serious offence.
