Help identifying a little yellow and black bird
Discussion
Couldn't get a pic quick enough, but there was a little yellow and black bird in my garden that really stood out, never seen one before. It was about sparrow size and was timid, didn't quite come over to our bird feeders, but wanted to.
It's head down to the base of it's neck looked like it had been dipped in black paint, then it had the most vivid yellow chest, this then changed further down into grey, its wings were grey, black and white striped,a stunning looking little thing, really caught your eye like a goldfinch does.
I've found the most similar pic to one, except my one had more yellow deeper down on it's chest, this pic is about 90% accurate to what i saw,any ideas?

No,i'm familiar with all those you've posted,it's just its head and neck was all black which was odd for a small bird, especially with the solid, bright yellow chest,it wasn't a dull yellow you'd get on a blue tit, probably more vivid than the yellow on goldfinches,i'd love to find out what it was.It was sparrow sized and not long and slender.
As soon as a camera is pointed they disappear. Interestingly at a zoo a few years back, I was trying to photo animals (as was someone else with an even larger-lensed camera) with no success - the animals kept avoiding us. Mt Daughter approached them with her iPhone and they weren't spooked at all, so she got some great shots. I wonder if they 'recognise' cameras as a danger?
I'm pretty sure it was that stitchbird the more i look at it,just the yellow part was about an inch or so deep and more prominent,i suppose birds of the same species vary from one to another.I'll keep my eye out for it again, there were just too many sparrows for it to come any nearer.
