Would this work? I live in Austria, near between lakes Altaussee and Grundlsee for anyone who knows it. These lakes are pure- I mean they are “drinking water quality” lakes (really, it’s proven). They are freshwater lakes that team with types of salmon and trout in the summer.

...and now on to my question. The sand will have the bacteria needed to start an aquarium, after all, the lakes are full of fish. I happen to have a spare, small aquarium. I was wondering if it’s possible or to take sand from the lake, with its natural bacteria and add it to the aquarium to seed the filter/media. Even filling the aquarium with lake water (instead of dechlorinated tap water)... Would it kick start the cycling process? Would it work? Eventually that aquarium would stock typical tropical community fish, tetras etc... what do you think? Any ideas
