Question for dog owners
Discussion
Hi
Nothing to do with cars, but a question for any dog owners:
Do you let your dogs pee and Poo in your own garden? One of our neighbours and has two small dogs that roam their garden all day long and do their business all over the lawn, flowerbed, patio etc.
Is this normal?
We are used to living in an apartment where dog owners take their dogs outside to do their business and then clean up behind them.
The thought of having dog poo all over the garden - even if they collect it every few days - seems horribly unhygenic, and of course having dog wee all over plants and grass just seems horrific to us.
Just wondered what people do in the UK
Many thanks

I don't really have a garden - I live in an upstairs flat.
There's a small grassed area beside my parking bay - the dog has a pee there sometimes.
Otherwise he is walked as per normal and picked up after.
I don't understand the mentality of letting your dog piss and ste all over your garden.

I expect that (like us) most dog owners tolerate a certain amount of garden turding, because they'll tend to need to go first thing in the morning and last thing at night. It's not always convenient to walk them at those times. Also, they don't always crap on the actual walk, so you don't have much choice.
You pick it up. No one has ever complained. Nothing dreadful has ever happened as as result of this.
TBH, it's preferable to carrying bags of turd around with you when you're out walking.

My dog has an enclosed patio that she does her business on, has a run into the drain at the lowest point... we pickup most days weather permitting then we will wash the patio down once a week, she has a butlers sink set in one corner too with hot and cold outdoor mixer spray, makes it easier to clean her if she needs it and fill water for her outdoors
Our Pug will do his toilet in the yard but only if he hasn't been for a walk all day (I think he actually saves it for his walks) and we just pick it up straight away...
We had neighbours years ago that had an American Bulldog that'd crap all over their garden and they were pretty lazy picking it up (it'd waft over in the summer ) and they had a young child that player in the garden.. some people are gross.

That’s a great idea. A friend of mine is a plumber and spends most of his time fitting outdoor hot taps outside for cleaning dogs! Yep, we just no to a) avoid the usual spots and b) keep eyes open anyway.
There's no way we could walk the dog enough during the day to stop him peeing at home. The other part is more about timing, we take him for a walk twice a day, and usually have to pickup then. But as others have said first thing in the morning, and the other occasional times it gets done at home.
Nice? No, wish we didn't have to live with it? Yes... but it's a dog, not a child, there's only so much you can train them, and he makes up for it in other ways.

I have three dogs and our garden backs onto a public copse. If I can be bothered I pick the poo up with a shovel and fling it over the trees onto the copse.
I then complain about the dog st on the friends of the copse Facebook group. It makes me look like a concerned and active member of my local community. Win win.
I would do the same with the wee but I find it hard to differentiate between dog piss and just moisture from dew or rain. I think I might trial laying some blotting paper over the garden last thing at night and looking for the yellow spots.
Seriously, WTAF?

Just clear up the poop every day, but don't worry about pee. Here we're lucky enough to have rabbits, mice, squirrels, hedgehogs, birds, badgers and sometimes deer pooping and peeing all over the garden too.
Don't get me started on catst, though. Always in a freshly dug flowerbed or on top of a molehill...
