Hi folks,

Our 5 year-old chocolate lab occasionally likes to relieve herself in the kitchen overnight. She sleeps in the dining room (attached to the kitchen).

Recently we tried to change her food and her stomach clearly wasn't a fan of this, so we reverted to her previous dry food which she seemed fine with. "Normal" poos etc resumed. During this, she was pooing as well at night (we think - it looks like she eats it afterward).

But occasionally I have been waking up to a puddle.

We always take her out for a wee (and usually a poo) at bedtime which is around 11PM, and we get up at around 7AM.

Sometimes she has a big drink before she goes to bed at night, which I'm sure doesn't help.

A few months ago we gave the vet a urine sample and there were no apparent issues.

Any thoughts? Should we stop her drinking before bed? She doesn't have regular drinks during the day, just a small amount of 'big drinks'. She also likes to drink from murky puddles on walks.

Thanks! smile

I’d definitely have a go at cutting out the nighttime drink, or maybe just leave a small amount in the bowl and see if that helps.

Is she spayed?

I know you say you gave the vet a urine sample a few months ago, but what were they checking for?

I am risk-averse, but personally, I would be booking another vet visit. I've had dogs that have had diabetes, who have needed treatment for incontinence and one whose thirst was increased by medication.

I wouldn't ever restrict a dog's access to water, except if directed to do so by a vet.
