Hi there,we have a 12 week old English bull terrier puppy, and we really need a trainer to help us with her. Obviously with lockdown we carnt go to classes,we have a very big back garden but the trainer isnt keen on that. Anyone know anyone in the Maldon area?

Speak to Karen or Geoff Carr at Faircroft in Latchingdon: http://www.farcroftkennels.com

I think they do Puppy Classes - if not them, they know the people who do.

You could always try Online/ Virtual training too. These guys are great & the courses are very clear, easy to follow and they work.

I've started a Dog Information Wiki with some links to properly qualified people and force free trainers.

My strong recommendation would be to start by looking on the APDT website and find a properly qualified trainer near you.

The reason for this is that training is unregulated so *anyone* can just call themselves a trainer (and often do) - there is no way you would know they may potentially harm your dog. People making recommendations may have no idea that the person they are suggesting may be very *nice* but actually really crap and use out of date forceful methods.

K9 Unit in Waltham Abbey, we took our crazy Doberman there. It was the only thing that would tire him out.

As a young puppy our little bully rascal decided it was a good idea to chew through all the mains and phone cables in the lounge, anything plugged into a wall socket was fair game in her eyes, first we knew about it was all the downstairs power went off, she had tripped out a 32 amp rcd breaker in the consumer unit (which luckily disconnected the power supply) she seemed unfazed by it all and gave us that proud look of satisfaction, she will be 10 in November and is still completely bonkers smile

We are only permitted to work with urgent welfare cases - on a 1:1 basis - we are not permitted to run in-person classes. (Governed by Defra/CFSG) plus the terms of our own particular professional insurance.

Kay Attwood - K9 Services - highly qualified professional and runs brilliant online classes from puppy classes to recall and loose lead walking
KC Trainer of the year - I have worked with her a lot (I am a trainer) and she is a fabulous 100% positive trainer.

Angela Doyle - Polite Paws Dog Training - also runs brilliant online puppy classes, I have worked with her also - she will shortly be qualified as a Separation Anxiety Behaviour specialist. 100% positive.

I am a qualified trainer myself, however I chose not to enter the general dog training arena, I specialise only in sports dog training.

This may explain why I am so passionate about searching via reputable membership bodies- because often people make well meaning recommendations that are really truly awful. smile
