What is it with some dog owners?misses got mouthful of abuse
Discussion
For what?Well, all she did was walk up to the gate of a little dog our Husky is friendly with. She walked up to their gate, their little pug sniffed our dog through the fence and vice-versa,and my misses gave it a biscuit,as she had done dozens of times before.
So,this is where it went tits up,my misses reached down over the fence and stroked the dogs ear and it gave out a horrendous yelp!Guy comes running out the house asking what she done to his dog and telling her to ps off and leave the dog alone??And generally just shouts at her while she's saying i just gave the dog biscuits then stroked it's ear,she then said what do you think i was doing, feeding the dog then punching it,stroking it then slapping it??
The dog obviously had some ear problem but how in the hell was she meant to know??
Honestly,some people!

Guy would have just heard a yelp and panicked. All the dog stealing etc going on you can let him off with his over reaction. Try not feed them imo. Although I can't talk, I gave a horse half a carrot the other day. Sorry. I'm telling you, my gf horse noticed his carrot was in half haha.
Our late lab was highly allergic to all proteins apart from white fish, wild boar and venison.
Feeding him would have meant a big clean up.
My view... It's polite to ask if you can pet, or feed, a dog especially if you've approached the dog.
Slightly different if one approaches you on a walk, but I still wouldn't feed one without asking.

Sounds like the owner over reacted to your missus feeding his dog. Your missus (how quaint) over reacted and you have over reacted to the story relayed to you.

Edit
Meant to say.
Don't feed other people's dogs without their express permission.

Indeed. We once went to the vet and were just telling her how the dog was allergic to wheat when she fed a dog biscuit. Can you guess what a major ingredient was? Had a very itchy dog for about two weeks ............coppernorks said:

Wild boar ?Not sure about this, maybe a piss-take but dog lovers do endow their stupid mutts with human foibles, neuroses and ailments
So he had a white fish based kibble.
I think they were both being a bit of an asshole really...
Your mrs shouldn't be touching anyone elses dog while its in a garden and certainly shouldn't be feeding it. The owner shouldn't have reacted in the way he did though.
A stupid situation that could have been entirely avoided if either party thought about what they were doing really...

Exactly, don't feed other people's animals and don't shout at strangers like a nutter.Your mrs shouldn't be touching anyone elses dog while its in a garden and certainly shouldn't be feeding it. The owner shouldn't have reacted in the way he did though.

You don't touch or feed a pet that is not yours without permission.
We have two german shepherd dogs, I once saw a chap let his two small children, about 4 and 6 at a guess, come up to our five bar gate, reach through and pet the dogs. I went over and told him he shouldn't let them pet unknown dogs, he replied 'they're all right aren't they?' I said 'yes, but you don't know that, what if one of your kids pulled their ears and it nipped them, you'd want it put down wouldn't you?'I have had dogs virtually all my life and wouldn't let a child go up to an unknown dog, in fact I wouldn't go up to an unknown dog without asking the owner if it was ok. If the owner isn't there then I wouldn't approach it, although obviously on some occassions the dog comes up to you, then usually the dog's demeanor let's you know if it's ok or not.
