Now it's the muddy season dog gets bathed every other day.

We had some shampoo from dogs at home, turns out I'm allergic to it!! Face and hands came up in a rash.

Bought some hypoallergenic stuff from amazon, its good but blimey what a price and the bottles almost finished??

Spending more on dog shampoo than the rest of the household, can't be right. What do you use?

I'll probably get slammed by a bunch of people saying that I should be using specially formulated dog shampoo prescribed by a qualified vet that costs more than it's weight in gold, but...

I use supermarket own-brand baby shampoo at £1 a bottle.

It's probably been tested on beagles, anyway. getmecoat

Just hose them down. No need for shampoo. It will strip the natural oils from their coat.

It's not as effective, even for fine mud. And let's not talk about fox st and decomposing seals' entrails.

Agree that you should keep use of shampoo to a reasonable minimum, but needs must...

Dog's skin has a different PH level to humans. They are more neutral at around a PH level of 7. Human skin is more acidic at 5.5 ish. Using a human shampoo on a dog is too harsh and can end up with them getting skin irritations etc.

Dog shampoo doesn't need to be expensive. Our ranges are between £9-£12. That's for products containing no Parabens, no Phthalates, no Phosphates, no Petrochemicals, no Sulphates and no PEGs. Only 100% Pure Essential Oils – No Synthetic or Semi Synthetic Fragrances

...Which is why everyone is recommending baby shampoo, which is PH neutral and uses much gentler foaming agents.

So only 900-1200% more expensive? Bargain...

You find basic maths confrontational?

Interesting.

Maybe that's because you're trying to sell over-priced snake oil, in breach of the forum's rules on unauthorised advertising?

I've heard baby shampoo is great as it doesn't iritate, have used it in the past and it's been fine.

Just finishing off some fantastic stuff we picked up from Aldi a while back, it was being discontinued and was around £1 so picked up a few bottles last year, this is used on Barry and Daphne, they get dirty and it does a good job. Probably go back to some kind of baby shampoo once it's finished.

Daisy has Pet Head white dog, dog shampoo, she rarely gets dirty (more grubby over time as she's white) so I'm happy to pay a bit more for a relatively expensive (around £8) specific shampoo as it lasts ages and she does come up well, after a bath.

Put a dog on the label and the price flies up. there's another thread running now where people are overpaying for vitamins for they dogs when you can get the same stuff from amazon for humans for a fraction of the price.

I think for pretty much everyone, cheap baby shampoo will more than do the job. We've not had any issues using it on dogs with skin allergies etc.

I wouldn't shampoo a dog regularly but sometimes they can get in such a mess you've no choice laugh

Dirty Beastie - i’m telling you! tried Johnson’s baby plus others, this stuff is... the dogs. Our two run on exmoor every day and get filthy. We bath them EVERY day. They are tip top.

This is typical

Thanks - they both turned out lovely. They’ll be having puppies next year if you fancy one! She’s from FTCh Buccleuch Pepper line and Magic her father is also FTCh now I think - it definitely shows! They’re working dogs though for us, we don’t trial them.

I would absolutely love one but I'm afraid my circumstances aren't right to get a new puppy.

I lost my black and white ESS on Christmas Eve last year. He was fantastic and is missed. I'm just left with a red fox lab now. But I so want another Springer but it will be a few years before I'll get one.

Good luck with the breeding though.
