Long story short, cats are brother and sister, 12 years old. From 2008-2014 (since birth) they were indoor cats. I moved to a flat with a garden in Fulham in 2014 and they became outdoor cats and were very happy. My flats garden backed onto more gardens, so it was a long line of quite secluded gardens, if that makes sense, not much worry about them being near any main road etc.

I moved to Surrey almost 3 weeks ago (I've kept them indoors since I moved) and my garden backs onto a vaguely busy road; not what you'd call a main road by any means, but certainly busier than a quiet residential street.

Now that they are 12, and they seem to have been actually ok being kept indoors, I'm starting to wonder if I even let them out again? Or is that just me being a paranoid cat owner and fearing the worst with this busier road nearby.

Admittedly I hate being back to the litter tray days, and when spring/summer hits keeping the doors closed with be a pain.....

Anyone else had a similar move?

Compromise with a catio? Or can you enclose the garden?

They'll probably be fine, the sound of the cars will most likely just keep them close to the house as they're getting on a bit. I'm just being overly cautious most likely.

Try spending a bit of time with them outside, call them back (if they will come back) if they start to venture to far.
